Jamaica to re-introduce Youth Parliament

Jamaica’s Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information Floyd Green has announced that the Youth Parliament is to be reintroduced.

He says that he believes it is critical to reinforcing ideas of democracy, rights and responsibilities.

The Jamaica National Youth Parliament was introduced in the early 2000’s and formed part of the annual Youth Month activities organised by the National Centre for Youth Development.

The Youth Parliament, which brought together more than 100 youth leaders from various organisations, was discontinued in 2009 due to what some believe were funding issues.

State Minister Floyd Green, who himself was a member of the Youth Parliament, says funding for the annual activity would be prioritised.
